Where Does the Cookie Money Go?

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2017 Girl Scout Cookie Program.

You may have thought you were just buying a delicious treat, but you're purchase helped power new, unique, and amazing experiences for girls—experiences that broaden their worlds, help them learn essential life skills, and prepare them to practice a lifetime of leadership. And guess what—100 percent of the money stays local! See where GSSJC cookie money goes.

Your cookie purchase not only supports girls’ success, but helps them find the G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ within to do amazing things for themselves and for their communities.

Here are some of the things girls in the GSSJC community are doing with their cookie money:

1. Community Service

It's in a Girl Scout's DNA to serve in their communities. Thanks to the Girl Scout cookie sale, girls have the funds for projects such as canned food drives, rebuilding community gardens, buying materials to create animal beds for animal adoption centers and the list goes on. Every corner of our community has been touched by a Girl Scout somewhere. Read how one Girl Scout impacted over 7,000 people!

2. Summer Resident and Day/Twilight Camp

Few things are as memorable for a girl as going away to camp for the summer. That's why during the cookie sale girls have the opportunity to raise funds, and if they need any additional help, GSSJC offers Camperships. Starting at just $200, girls have the opportunity to go to over 50 fun, themed summer camp sessions, including sessions on photography, horseback riding, sailing and so much more! But you don't need to spend the night to have a great camp experience. Day/Twilight camps are also available to girls all summer long.

3. Travel and Destinations

How many girls have seen the world and all before the age of 18!? Cookie money allows girls to travel if they wish, either on their own, or as part of our Destinations program. Destinations are the ultimate adventure for individual girls ages 11 and older! With different trips every year, girls escape to iceland, go hiking in Costa Rica and do so much more! Read how Troop #7073 used money from their cookie sale to fund a trip to Colorado.

4. Troop Activities

All year long, GSSJC offers girls fun, educational programming on a variety of topics in STEM, the outdoors, sports, the arts and more! With literally hundreds of activities to choose from, her cookie money can help her learn about robotics, astronomy, hiking or even take her on a trip to one of Houston's many museums. Learn about more of the GSSJC activities and program offerings when you visit the Activities page of our website.
