GSSJC Robotics Teams Advancing in Competitions!

GSSJC is proud to announce our robotics teams have had a successful season so far! The Council’s Robotics program consists of five FIRST Lego League (FLL) competition teams for girls age 9-14 and one Junior FLL team for girls age 5-8. This is the first year GSSJC has had a sponsored team for Junior FLL, the Smart Sassy Lego Ladies, and the award for their season was based on their optimal application of simple machines – they made a musical band out of Legos, simple machines and recycled materials.

Our FLL teams were successful in the Qualifying Tournament. The Luna Tech team did not place, but they had a very fruitful season where girls gelled as a team and became coding rock stars. The Robo Raiders team received third place for their project and presentation and the Robot Runners team also received second place in the same category. The BotCats team received a Judge’s Award for their research and preparation, which stood out from all other teams. Finally, the Brainiac Maniac team placed first in Core Values (FLL organizational values similar to the Girl Scout Law) and first in Robot Performance.

Of the four teams that moved on to the Championship this February, one was in the Silver Division and three were in the Gold Division. In each division, 75 teams competed. The Robo Raiders received a first place Championship Award in the Silver Division. Robot Runners third place in the Gracious Professionalism category in the Gold Division. The Brainiac Maniacs received third place in the Robot Competition of the Gold Division.

We are so proud of the work all the robotics teams have accomplished and the Girl Scout values they have exemplified. GSSJC would also like to say a big thank you to the coaches for these teams, who have been meeting weekly with them for the past several months. These teams could not have accomplished so much success without your guidance.
