Resident Camp Spotlight: Camp Casa Mare
Ready to set sail into a summer of fun? As we get closer to the kick off of resident camp on June 15, we'll be highlighting each of our resident camps here on the GSSJC blog. Still not sure which camp is the best fit for you? Can't decide on a session? Stay tuned to this series for a sneak peek at what camp looks like.
Camp Casa Mare on Galveston Bay is a tropical paradise for water lovers and landlubbers alike. Whether you want to get a taste of sailing or just want to spend a week by the water, Camp Casa Mare is the perfect spot for endless sunshine and Gulf Coast breezes.
Girls staying at Camp Casa Mare live in dormitories with the other girls in their special interest session. Each dorm includes camp beds for all campers as well as shower facilities. Campers gather in the air conditioned galley for meals and all-camp assemblies. The galley also houses craft/activity rooms and a display or artifacts from the camp's rich history.
Special interest sessions focus on water sports such as sailing, SCUBA and skin diving. A fleet of Sunfish sailboats, Lasers and sloops provide a challenging experience for those who wish to gain sailing expertise or just enjoy recreational sailing. Other activities such as dance or drama are also available. In addition to the focus of their session, campers will participate in traditional camp activities such as swimming, archery, games and, of course, making new friends. Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors can attend resident camp at Camp Casa Mare.
