Phone App Puts success of Cookie Sale in the palm of girls’ hands
Customers across Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council’s 26 southwest Texas counties will have the opportunity to purchase Girl Scout cookies a bit earlier this year and receive them just in time for New Year’s thanks to a new app. Beginning December 21, girls will start selling cookies digitally using Cookie Command (COCO) software and COCOmobile’s new feature COCOdirect. The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC), one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country, is the test market for the feature that allows customers to order, purchase and ship cookies in bulk to their doorstep using an electronic order card.
center for their cookie business. It includes COCOcommand, an internet-based application that allows girls to contact customers via e-card and COCOmobile, an iOS application that allows girls to track orders, payment and delivery statuses and set and monitor goals.
Through COCOdirect, customers will only be able to purchase six box bundles of any variety of cookies or eight box sample packs and pay for orders using a credit card. All COCOdirect orders are shipped directly to the customers by the baker.
“Ordering Girl Scout cookies using COCOdirect is a good way for organizations and corporations looking to purchase cookies in bulk to thank patrons for their business or staff for their hard work,” said D’Anne Hawk, GSSJC’s Product Sales Director. “At the same time, they’re still supporting girls as they participate in the Cookie Program and gain critical business and life skills.”
Although COCOdirect and COCOmobile are nontraditional ways of purchasing Girl Scout cookies, they do not replace the interaction customers will have with girls. Girls who use COCOmobile will still have to deliver orders to customers and those who use COCOmobile will have to be in front of customers to take orders on their Apple device. Both of these activities are key to helping girls gain confidence and learn people skills and business management.
“The girls will use as a tool, which gives customers a more convenient way to purchase and receive cookies,” said Hawk. “COCOdirect is the future of the Girl Scout Cookie Sale and provides everything the girl will need to meet her goals in the palm of her hand.”
Girl Scout Cookies are available in eight varieties: Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lot, Caramel deLites, Lemonades and Cranberry Citrus Crisps. All varieties of Girl Scout Cookies are zero trans fat per serving, and the price for a box of cookies is $4.
Girls will begin the traditional process of selling Girl Scout cookies door-to-door January 11. Beginning February 21, Girl Scout Cookies will be sold at cookie booths outside of grocery stores and other retail venues. The Cookie Sale ends March 30. All proceeds from the cookie program support girls, their troops and Girl Scouting locally.
