Media Wrap-up: Aug. 10-30

Happy Friday, Girl Scouts! Now that most everyone in the Council is back in school, we can't wait to get the Girl Scout year started too! Of course, Girl Scouting happens all year round - here's a quick look at some of our GSSJC Girl Scouts who have been mentioned in the news recently for their activities and accomplishments:

Woodlands Online reported Girl Scout Mackenzie F. traveled to Costa Rica this summer on a Girl Scout destinations. Through a partnership with Outward Bound, Mackenzie had the chance to trek the rainforest and spend one-on-one time with Costa Rican families. Follow the link for more on her trip!

A few of our Council's Gold Award recipients were also recognized in the news:
  • Ultimate Memorial reported Katelyn W. earned the Gold Award by leading a team of volunteers in a photography project at a local park.
  • Ultimate Memorial also shared Elise F. earned the Gold Award by installing birdhouses at a local nature sanctuary.

On the GSSJC blog we recently shared a guest post from one of our CIT's this summer (spoiler alert: she had a great time and wants you to know why you should be a CIT too!) We showed you a sneak peek at all the fantastic updates being made at Camp Myra S. Pryor to better serve girls in our Council. We also shared the new Fall Product items for 2013. (We may have sampled them too. Our one word review for both: YUM.)

And just as a reminder, rallies and sign-up events in our Council are gearing up. Head to our rally locator page and put in your zip code or school to find out when a sign-up event is taking place near you! We can't wait for you to join us this year - it's going to be a fun one!

Don't forget, anytime you see Girl Scouts in the news in your community, send us the link so we can share it with everyone! Email your submissions to
