Media Wrap-up: June 1-7

Each week Girl Scouts all over our Council are recognized by local media for their service projects, awards or even just for doing a good deed. Check out our favorites from the past week below!

The Pearland Journal reported Girl Scout Lauren J. recently earned the Silver Award by working with a
local animal shelter. Great job, Lauren!

Also from the Pearland Journal comes this photo of Girl Scouts in Brooks Bayou Service Unit - they gathered for a bridging ceremony, where Girl Scouts bridge to the next level. Nearly 90 girls participated - congrats to all!

The Atascocita Observer reported Troop #9667 donated a cistern (a waterproof container for collecting and holding liquids) to their school to collect rainwater. The rainwater will be used to water the school garden.

From Fort Bend Lifestyles & Homes Magazine, members of Troop #28103 earned the Silver Award by working with the Sugar Land Animal Rescue Center. Congrats, ladies!

And finally, a little bit of national news: GSUSA announced this week Girl Scouts received two awards from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) for our Be a Friend First (BFF) and Financial Empowerment K-12 programs. Read the blog announcing the news here and click on either program name in the previous sentence to learn more about each.

Don't forget, you can always submit your own troop news for consideration on the blog by emailing us at communications@sjgs.org.
