Media Wrap-up: Dec. 1-21

Each week Girl Scouts all over our Council are recognized by local media for their service projects, awards or even just for doing a good deed. Check out our favorites from the past few weeks below! shared a Troop #9486 tagged hundreds of donated books for Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital as a recent service project. Great work, girls!

This is pretty cool - earlier this month two of our Mariners shared with you on the blog what it was like at Camp Casa Mare when a Coast Guard helicopter landed so the girls could tour it and learn more about what the Coast Guard does on a daily basis. Coast Guard Heartland, the official blog of the 8th Coast Guard District, posted a blog about what the experience was like for them. Looks like a ton of fun! recognized Girl Scout Carolyn R. for earning the Gold Award. Carolyn led her team of volunteers in organizing a weekly recycling pick-up at her school and worked to educate fellow students on the benefits of recycling. Congrats Carolyn!

If you have not done so, we encourage you to read GSUSA CEO Anna Maria Chavez's message on the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT last Friday. Eight of the 12 girls killed were Girl Scouts. You can also read this blog post to learn more about the fund Girl Scouts of Connecticut has set up for the families of these girls. Our thoughts are with our Girl Scout sisters at this difficult time.

Finally, please note we will be taking a short hiatus from blogging during the holidays. We hope you and your families have a wonderful holiday season together and look forward to sharing more fun Girl Scouting stories with you in 2013!
