Media Wrap-up: Sept. 29 - Oct. 5

Each week Girl Scouts all over our Council are recognized by local media for their service projects, awards or even just for doing a good deed. Check out our favorites from the past week below!

It was a BIG week for our Council, and the Houston Chronicle and ABC 13 both attended The B.I.G. Event last Saturday and shared some great photos and quotes from attendees! Share your own photos with us - email them to communications@sjgs.org for our Facebook page album and The Golden Link.

YourSugarLandNews.com reported Girl Scouts from Rainbow Service Unit are hard at work on their Silver Award. A troop will host a car wash tomorrow to collect donations to go to Creative Dreams Outreach Center, a nonprofit after-school arts and tutoring program for middle and high school students in Fort Bend County. Way to go, ladies!

YourWestUNews.com and YourRiverOaksNews.com both shared the great work some GSSJC Girl Scouts did to help Anthropologie at Highland Village in Houston prep their latest window diplay! We got to tag along for this event - you can check out more photos right here on the GSSJC blog. And if you live in the area, drive by the store on Westheimer and check it out for yourself!

The United Way Galveston County Mainland recently held a luncheon that GSSJC Girl Scouts participated in. Click the link to see their slideshow from the event!

YourPearlandNews.com reported the United Way of Brazoria County recently donated $28,000 to GSSJC. Girl Scouts from the area were on hand to accept the donation on behalf of the Council.

The Aberdeen's blog shared this story with their residents about the Houston Zoo's Badge Day workshops - girls always have a great time at this event. If you troop attends, be sure to send in your photos for The Golden Link Scrapbook pages!

GSUSA shared the new Girl Scout Cookie boxes on their blog this week. If you attended The B.I.G. Event, you probably got a sneak peek there - as well as a chance to try the brand new Mango Cremes! (We got to try them back in August - fruity and tart!) What do you think of the new boxes and new cookie?

Don't forget the Texas State Fair is now open, and they have a fantastic Girl Scout exhibit. If your family or troop visits, be sure to send us your photos for The Golden Link.

We love reading so many good stories. Have you seen a great article in your local paper? Share it by emailing the link to menzor@sjgs.org.
