Media Wrap-up: Oct. 6-12

Each week Girl Scouts all over our Council are recognized by local media for their service projects, awards or even just for doing a good deed. Check out our favorites from the past week below!

This biggest news this week came from one of our Gold Award recipients Demme D. who was featured in the Ultimate Woodlands section of the Houston Chronicle. Last year for her Gold Award project, Demme hosted a Human Rights Walk and Festival for her community - and more than 1,000 people participated! She enjoyed the event so much that she is hosting it again this year, and sign-up for the free event is now open to the public. If you're in The Woodlands, we hope you'll consider checking out this Girl Scout's great event.

Also continuing to be big news this week was the new Girl Scout cookie boxes. We'll have some more details on the blog Monday, but you can check out GSUSA's blog entry with a link to a New York Times article about the new look and feel.

On the GSSJC blog this week, we shared news of the first-ever Day of the Girl yesterday and shared a fun photo gallery of prominent female leaders sharing the advice they would give to their 15-year-old self and asked for your advice as well.

We also posted another Purse-onality entry with our former Council president Ellen DeSanctis who is now serving as an honorary co-chair for the Second Century of Leadership Campaign. If you have a suggestion of a volunteer or staff member you'd like to see featured in this series, email us!

We love reading so many good stories. Have you seen a great article in your local paper? Share it by emailing the link to menzor@sjgs.org.
