Media Wrap-up Sept. 8-14

Each week Girl Scouts all over our Council are recognized by local media for their service projects, awards or even just for doing a good deed. Check out our favorites from the past week below!

Girl Scout Maggie M. was recognized by ABC13YourClevelandNews.com and YourDaytonNews.com for earning the Lifesaving Medal of Honor. Maggie came to her grandfather's rescue and saved his life after he passed out while making dinner.

Board Member Kent Hutchinson was featured on KTRE in Nacogdoches, TX where he shared the benefits of Girl Scouts. Click the link to watch his interview!

YourWoodlandsNews.com shared how girls in Montgomery county can join Girl Scouts and help celebrate our 100th anniversary at the BIG Event Sept. 29.

The GSUSA blog shared Girl Scouts of the USA CEO Anna Maria Chavez recently spoke at LinkedIn's InDay Speaker Series. Click here to watch the video - she shared some great stories about the ToGetHerThere initiative.

Finally, several GSSJC Girl Scouts were recognized in their community papers for earning their Gold Award:

  • Taffeta B. was featured in Ultimate Bellaire for teaching foster children how to play lacrosse.
  • Megan T. was featured in Ultimate Cy-Fair for teaching kids how to play musical instruments.
  • Laura C. was also featured in Ultimate Cy-Fair for cleaning up running trails at the Cypress Creek YMCA and making repairs to the archery and BB gun ranges.
  • Lauren. T., Meredith G. and Emma B. were all featured in Ultimate West U for their Gold Award projects. Lauren collected bikes, made repairs and donated them to a local shelter and resale shop. Meredith worked with special needs riders at SIRE, and Emma created enrichment toys for local pet shelters.
