Media Wrap-Up: Aug. 18-24

Each week Girl Scouts all over our Council are recognized by local media for their service projects, awards or even just for doing a good deed. Check out our favorites from the past week below!

The Houston Chronicle ran a great article on how Girl Scouts is helping create a new generation of girl leaders with ToGetHerThere, including an interview with GSSJC CEO Mary Vitek and Board Member Jamie Vazquez. GSUSA also featured it on their own blog today - good read!

YourHoustonNews.com in Memorial, Bellaire and West U all shared the great news about a $100,000 gift from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation that will go towards construction of the Mamie E. George Activity Center at Camp Myra S. Pryor in El Campo, TX. We can't wait to see girls using this!

Five GSSJC Gold Awardees were also recognized this week:
  • Ultimate Memorial reported Erin B. earned the Gold Award by promoting childhood literacy.
  • Ultimate Spring reported Megan T. earned the Gold Award after holding a choir, orchestra and band workshop for fourth graders in her area.
  • Ultimate Fort Bend reported Symira M. and Alexa P. both earned the Gold Award for projects relating to healthy eating and combating childhood obesity.
  • Ultimate West U reported Nina D. earned the Gold Award by working with teen girls at the DePelchin Center.
Congrats to these ladies for earning Girl Scouting's highest honor!

We love reading so many good stories. Have you seen a great article in your local paper? Share it by emailing the link to menzor@sjgs.org.
