Media Wrap-up: June 9-22

Each week Girl Scouts all over our Council are recognized by local media for their service projects, awards or even just for doing a good deed. Check out our favorites from the past week below!

"Girl Scouts graffiti library" - this headline from YourAtascocitaNews.com certainly grabbed readers attention. We won't spoil the fun, so click the link for more details on this good deed. Congrats to these ladies on earning their Bronze Award!

Rock the Mall, held Saturday, June 9, was a huge success and many Girl Scouts from GSSJC, including our CEO Mary Vitek and President of the Council Stacy Methvin, attended. Visit our Facebook page for more photos and check out KHOU's mention of the event.

KTRE and The Daily Sentinel in Nacogdoches, Texas covered GSSJC CEO Mary Vitek's recent visit with the town's Rotary Club. She and GSSJC Board of Directors member Kent Hutchinson shared the Girl Scouting message and how adults can volunteer with our Council.

Ultimate Bellaire reports Girl Scout Troop #21035 were recently named outstanding citizens for their beautification project at the Bellaire Fire Department. Great job making the world a better place, ladies!

Ultimate Memorial shared some of our photos from last Friday's rain garden event at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. Alcoa employees volunteered their time to teach girls how to properly plant native species in the Arboretum's rain garden.

GSSJC volunteers from The Woodlands as well as Klein and Spring were recognized by Chron.com for their hard work and Adult Recognitions received this year. Congrats to these invaluable volunteers!

Finally, two GSSJC Gold Award recipients were recognized by publications in their communities:
  • The Rancher shared Vaidehi M. earned her Gold Award by working with children at the Krause Center. Congratulations Vaidehi!
  • Chron.com and YourConroeNews.com both shared Demme D. earned her Gold Award by hosting the 2011 Human Rights Walk and Festival in The Woodlands. Congratulations Demme!
